Vision and Dental Insurance

Do you need Dental or Vision coverage? Ankley Insurance Services can help you understand the benefits of Dental Insurance or Vision Insurance; what the plans cover and if they make sense for you and your situation. Give us a call today!

Since most people visit their dentist and their eye doctor more often than they visit their general health care practitioner, it makes sense that dental and vision insurance is often bundled into a single policy. Regular check-ups with your dentist and eye doctor not only help to keep your teeth, gums, and eyes healthy, but can also increase the chances of identifying potentially serious health conditions before they become full-blown problems. Doing so contributes to lower insurance premiums for everyone and makes for a generally healthier society. So when it comes to paying for these regular dental and eye-doctor visits, it is important to have adequate insurance coverage.

What You Should Know Before You Choose a Dental Plan

tooth image dental insuranceDental insurance, simply put, is a specific category of health insurance with the sole purpose of covering the costs associated with most forms of dental care. Vision insurance is basically the same thing but covers most forms of eye care. When choosing a dental and/or vision insurance policy, one of the first things to consider is how much you are willing to spend out-of-pocket. Lower monthly premiums mean a higher cost share for you when paying for care whereas a higher premium means a lower cost share of covered costs. It is advisable that you visit your dentist and eye doctor before choosing an insurance plan in order to determine if any complicated procedures necessary that a particular policy may cover of help to cover.

What is Included in Dental & Vision Insurance?

In terms of dental plans, questions often arise about what is included and the answer is dependent upon the types of services that are included. The services that are most often included in just about any dental plan in the United States include:

  • Routine and Preventative Care includes the basic care services associated with dental visits such as check-ups, cleanings, and x-rays. Other services may include certain cavity prevention applications, oral surgeries, and various forms of gum care.
  • Emergency Care is exactly what it sounds like and involves treatment following an unexpected incident in which teeth and/or gums have been adversely affected. Some examples include repairing or extracting cracked or broken teeth or other procedures.
  • Complex Care involves certain specialized dental procedures such as dentures and bridges.

Vision care insurance usually covers basic services like annual eye exams, eyeglass lenses and frames, contact lenses, and corrective procedures like LASIK and PRK at a discounted rate. There are often discount plans available through most providers for dental and/or vision insurance coverage. Discount plans are not technically considered insurance policies but can save the participant as much as 40% of the retail cost of the same products and services offered by regular policies.
